On Saturday, young students of rock ‘n’ roll will wail, riff and slam in Newport News to benefit the Autism Society’s Tidewater chapter. The Academy of Rock Music and Virginia beach retailer Alpha Music are hosting the 2nd Annual Rock Autism Festival. The free event will take place at Styron Square, Port Warwick, in Newport News from noon to 8:00 p.m.
“All 20 Academy bands – over 120 young musicians – will be performing,” said Ron Lowder, Jr., headmaster for the Newport News-based school for aspiring rockers. Prizes to be raffled include a guitar signed by all five members of metal group Lamb of God.
